C: This seemed stuck on one still while I was looking at it?
Otte: These artists grew up together. Not lovers per se, but very very very close friends, like family, but stronger, even. They are "joined at the hip" so to speak. Originally, they had planned to do a performance at The Pearl, but due to their schedules, were unable to be present. So, this was an attempt to "telecast" their presence with a still video image. They first settled on the idea of projecting the still image, but due to space confinement and video resolution issues, I suggested that they present this as a "still video image" on a flatscreen tv. The image was burned onto a looped DVD. In some cases, my intervention has inspired individual artists to look at their works in different ways (e.g. Lee Deigaard [not shown in my visuals –C]). I have encouraged AdrinAdrina and Elliott Coon to consider a "Pearl Divers" series in which they appear washed up on different shores with a multitude of pearls overflowing from their mouths and scattered on their naked bodies. In fact, when I found out that they would not be present for the show, I had tried to get them to do a photo shoot like this in various places at The Pearl. They LOVE The Pearl, and have spent a lot of time at there along with Jay, the owner and mastermind. The idea was to place these pearl-diving photos and/or videos in the exact same locations where they were taken so as to create an uncanny tele-presence. I would still like to do this in the future with them. In fact, I may do an updated enhanced version of this show in two years time with additions and enhancements such as this. We'll see.
