The proceeds from this bond issue were to be used by Marcel Duchamp to play roulette at Monte Carlo, using a system by which he purported to believe he might "break the bank." The certificate evidenced the rights of the owner to a share in any winnings (there were none). For more about this piece (which I came across quite coincidentally while in NYC), watch for a program I'm working on now, which will present excerpts from Temporary Services' one-off newspaper issue, Art Work, read by actors provided through the generosity of Undermain Theatre – that's coming in June, 2010, to CentralTrak, Dallas. For more info re- Temporary Services' project, see artandwork.us; for more info about related events in Dallas, see the Wall and Info at the Temporary Services' "Art Work" in Dallas facebook page or check c-Blog.
